Neon Skittles Mani with Stripes

Hi everyone! Here's my reminder to enter my giveaway, just a few days left!!

I tried a version of the skittles mani- which is basically painting each nail a different color. I added black vertical stripes to each nail! From thumb to pinky I wore:

Maybeline Express Finish Caliente Coral
Hard Candy Frenzy
Chanel Mimosa
Sinful Colors Dream On (Matte! But I used top coat)
OPI Did It On 'Em

And I used Essie Licorice for the black stripes. This is such a bright festive mani, I just love it!

Another Attempt at the Sponged Gradient- with AA Office and Zoya Audrina

Hi friends!

First- my obnoxious reminder to enter my awesome giveaway! Come on there's no excuse now- you could win four of Essie's Summer 2012 Collection!

Today I've got another attempt at the gradient mani. I think (hope!) I'm getting better each time. I decided to try contrasting colors with the Mint colored American Apparel Office and Zoya Audrina, a deep pink. I started by painting my entire nail with Office. I let it dry longer this time. I then mixed the two colors, and painted Office, the mixture, and Audrina on a damp makeup sponge. I sponged away up and down the nail and this was the result. Could be better, could be worse- I'm pretty happy with it!

How have you found all the tutorials and examples for the gradient mani?

My Take On: Sally Hansen Magnetic Polish in Red-y Response

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday weekend! I enjoyed thoroughly roasting in the sun and now I am so sunburned :(. But it was worth it!

REMEMBER to enter my giveaway before it's over!

Today I have my review of Sally Hansen's new magnetic polishes. I've pondered buying a magnetic polish for some time now, but was never that impressed with what I saw. In an impulse buy at Target, I snagged one of the Sally Hansen colors. I used Red-y Response, a deep maroon color. The application is pretty simply. You paint one coat and let dry. Then, one nail at a time, you paint a second coat and use the magnet to create the pattern. Unlike some polishes that come with different magnet designs, this kind only comes with one. I experimented a bit with how long I let the magnet sit over my nail, where I placed it, and I saw some different results! All in all I like this polish and thought it was pretty darn cool after all.

Have any of you tried the Sally Hansen Magnetic Polishes?

Vertical Half Moons with OPI Simmer and Shimmer and Essie Plumberry

Hello! Last week I saw a photo of what I'm calling a vertical half moon in a magazine and I knew I had to try it. If you can't tell from the title, instead of the half moon on the bottom portion of the nail, this half moon is on the side of the nail, and it's vertical.

Remember to enter my giveaway where you can win FOUR of the Essie Summer 2012 collection!

I already had Essie Plumberry on, and I wanted to try this technique. So I grabbed my handy hole punch reinforcers and OPI Simmer and Shimmer to get started. I used about three coats of Simmer and Shimmer as I wanted it to fully cover Essie Plumberry. I carefully peeled off the stickers and applied top coat. And there you have it! I really like this style and will definitely try it with more color combinations.

I only needed two coats and application was just perfect. I think I'm in love. Check it out below:

My First Attempt at the Gradient Manicure! (Go Easy On Me!)

Hey everyone! So today I have an interesting post for you :)

I've been loving the gorgeous gradient trend going around. I've seen it with the ombre look all in the same color family, and I've even seen fairly contrasting shades look fab with this tutorial! I've read a ton of posts on how to get this just right, and now I see why they are all so different. I'm hoping to get a tutorial out myself, but not until I perfect this.

I attempted the ombre look, using OPI Do You Lilac It? and Essie Smokin' Hot. To start I painted my whole nail with Do You Lilac It. I then painted two coats of Smokin' Hot on just the top 1/3 of my nail. Using a small brush, I mixed Do You Lilac It and Smokin Hot' to get the perfect in between shade. I painted this on to a makeup sponge (as recommended, it was slightly damp) and began to sponge the mixed color in between the two halves of my nail. Now this is where it got tricky for me. Maybe I didn't wait long enough for the first coats to dry, but when I sponged, the sponge picked up some of my nail polish on certain nails, and on others, it left nasty residue! So after a few attempts of repainting and responging, I tried lightly painted this mixed shade where there were any mess ups. Once that was painted on, I sponged it up! Kinda the opposite idea, but it worked! I did more of this on my left hand then my right hand so I have pictures of both to compare. And of course the top coat is SO important in this mani as it helps blend the shades. Check out my pics!

Left Hand:

Right Hand:

Overall I love this style and can't wait to try it again and get it just right. To those of you who've got it down- more power to you! I personally don't think this is as easy as it seems! :)

Music Monday: New Passion Pit, MSMR, Marina + The Diamonds and more!

Hi everyone!

I know this is later than my usual Music Monday posts so instead of powering you through your Mondays, check this our for your Monday night :)

Today I have a couple of new jams and some new albums to check out!

1. Take a Walk- Passion Pit
Passion Pit fans have been waiting and waiting for new music, and finally- it arrives! Love this great new track and can't wait for the album!

2. Hurricane- MSMR
Saw this from a great blog I follow who compared MSMR to Florence and the Machine. I say it's Florence + Mattafix, a UK duo who I love. Maybe with a dash of Citizen Cope.

3. ALBUM: Electra Heart- Marina + The Diamonds
I have blogged about Marina on here before, but I've finally been able to give the whole album a listen and it is just awesome. Here is just one track, but click here to listen to more!

Starring Role:

4. ALBUM: Vows- Kimbra
You may know Kimbra from the hit that keeps on going, Somebody That I Used to Know. However, I heard a song of hers, Settle Down, last year and loved it. Now her entire album is coming out on May 22nd and you can listen to the whole thing right here: Listen! Enjoy!

My Take On: Pure Ice Vinyl Remix

Hi everyone and Happy Friday!! I am ready for the weekend :)

Today I have a really cool polish to show you. Pure Ice sent me these polishes to review (Opinions are my own) and I was immediately intrigued. The concept, for those of you who haven't seen these before, is that there is a 'Magic' white base coat. Then there are several different colors of black crackle. At first you may be thinking huhh?? The crackle works with the white base coat, and as it crackles onto the nail, it makes the white beneath turn a color! This takes one step out of the mani with different shades underneath with one crackle color on top. And it's so cool! I chose to use the four different colors (orange, green, yellow and purple) in horizontal stripes on each nail.

First- here is a process pic so please excuse the messiness, to show how it works!

Now onto the final look!

Enjoy and have a fun and safe weekend!

Get Studded: With China Glaze Harvest Moon

Hey everyone! Today I have a super fun mani I've been wanting to try forever. I finally got my hands on some studs at a craft store for just $3. After pondering what shade these lovely little black studs would look best with I settled on China Glaze Harvest Moon from the Hunger Games 'Colours from the Capitol' Collection. Harvest Moon is a deep orange foil that only needed two coats. When it was just about dry, I carefully placed the studs on my nail. I then sealed them on with two generous coats of Seche Vite.

Have you used studs before on your nails?

Inspired By: Green Stripes

Hey everyone! So last week I was in Francesca's looking around and spotted this gorgeous green striped top. Although I didn't get it, I did snap a pic because I was immediately inspired for a great mani! To recreate the shirt's look on my nails I started with a base of OPI Alpine Snow. I then created stripes in the following shades: OPI Here Today Aragon Tomorrow, OPI Jade is the New Black and OPI Did It On 'Em. I really love how this turned out, and it matches the shirt pretty well if I do say so myself!

Hope you enjoy!

Multi-Colored Tape Mani

Hi everyone! Today I have a fun take on the tape mani. I've been seeing a lot of this style and have been dying to try it. In order to get the multicolored look you can use 2 or 3 shades and paint each nail with all of the colors. You can keep each nail the same or make each one different like I did. The colors don't need to be perfect since you're covering up most of it anyways! I used KleanColor Metallic Aqua, Green and Sapphire. On some of my nails it looks like I used four colors because Metallic Aqua blended with Metallic Green to create a teal shade on some of my nails. After waiting for my nails to really really dry- and after feeling self conscious in public with heinous nails, I applied my small strips of tape. Once they were good and secure I used Essie Licorice on top. When that was realtively dry I peeled off the tape, applied top coat and voila!

PS- I won't be posting tomorrow :( So lookout for my next post on Monday!)
