Music Monday: Charlene Soraia, M.I.A, Sleigh Bells and more!

Happy Monday! I'm back with my top music picks for the week! I think these tunes will improve just about anyone's week!

1. Wherever You Will Go- Charlene Soraia
I'm a sucker for covers (obviously) and this cover of The Calling's '90's one hit wonder is so beautiful.

2. Bad Girls- M.I.A.
This new/old song is being released as M.I.A.'s newest single. It is very typical M.I.A.but still so fun to listen to!

M.I.A. - Bad Girls (Prod. Danja).mp3 - 3.5 MB

3. The Wilhelm Scream- The Bamboos ft. Megan Washington
One of my favorite songs by James Blake, covered and brought upbeat quite a bit!

4. Comeback Kid- Sleigh Bells
I'm loving this new single from Sleigh Bells. I used to listen to their first album Treats when I needed to get really pumped up for something and this track is no different

5. I Like it Like That (Vanguard Remix) -Hot Chelle Rae
Normally I'm not the biggest fan of this kind of song, but this remix really changes the tone of such an upbeat poppy song. It doesn't really get started until :50.

I hope you enjoy these! I've hit 99 followers...so close! Just one more and I'll be doing a fun giveaway :) hint hint nudge nudge...

My Take On: OPI Fresh Frog of Bel-Air

Hey everyone and Happy Friday! Today I've swatched OPI Fresh Frog of Bel-Air from the Muppets collection! This was recently on sale at beauty brands and I had to snatch it up! I didn't realize how gorgeous this polish was until I started applying it! FFOBA is a clear polish with green microglitter and large silver hexagonal glitter. I chose to try it over two different base shades to show you both looks! For most of my nails, I used two coats of OPI Jade is the New Black followed by three coats of FFOBA. However on my ring finger, I used two coats of Wet 'N Wild Silvivor followed by three coats of FFOBA. Honestly I think I like it over the silver polish best! Which one do you prefer?

Colorblock Nails with KleanColor Metallic Polishes!

Hi friends! Today I have my first mani using my new KleanColor metallic polishes I won from the lovely Nails Actually. I used Metallic Green, Metallic Aqua and Metallic Sapphire. All of these polishes are so thick they really only need one coat! I started with Metallic Green which almost looks yellow, then followed with Metallic Aqua. However, on top of the green- Metallic Aqua looked more like a pure green color. I finished this off with the deep Metallic Sapphire, a great dark blue. I love these shapes and colors together- I'll definitely be trying this design again! Remember to 'like' me on Facebook and follow me on GFC!

My Take On: OPI Nicki Minaj 'Save Me'

Hey everyone! Today I'm swatching one of the gorg. Nicki Minaj polishes from OPI- Save Me. A lot of you may have gotten this polish in the mini set, in which it is mislabeled as 'Metallic 4 Life.' However Metallic 4 Life is a black shade with silver glitter- this one is Save Me!

Save Me is a clear polish with silver microglitter and blue and gold bar glitter. I applied it over two coats of Zoya Phoebe to emphasize the blue! It applies really well, not too goopy or sticky. This is the first glitter polish I've ever gotten with bar glitter and I love it! I definitely recommend this polish, it's unlike anything I have! PS- remember to click 'Join this site' on the right and there just might be a giveaway when I get to 100 followers!

Super close up view!

Tribal Nails with OPI Nicki Minaj Shades

Hey everyone! Today I have such a fun mani using the bright and fun OPI Nicki Minaj colors. I decided to use three of the shades to do tribal nails! I love tribal nails (and the tribal trend!) because there is no way to do it wrong :)

I started with two coats of OPI Fly, a gorgeous teal! Then I created the first part of the designs with OPI Did It On 'Em- a VERY bright chartreuse shade. I'm not sure if I'd wear this one alone it's just so bright! Then I finished it off with OPI Pink Friday which can only be described as bubblegum pink! I used a thin nail art brush and dotting tool to accomplish this design!
(This one was taken with Instagram so the colors are a little different!)

Have you tried the Nicki Minaj colors yet?

I heard this on Gossip Girl last week and just HAD to have this. Eerie, but relaxing at the same time. Listening on repeat!

2. Wicked Games by James Vincent McMorrow
I love the original by Chris Isaak, but this cover is just phenomenal. Also heard on GG, but too good not to mention!

So excited for new music from The Shins! This is the first single from their new album coming out soon!

4. The Bad in Each Other- Feist
My favorite song from their new album, Metals. If I was a runner, I think this would be a great song to listen to while running haha...

Enjoy!

Tape Mani Tutorial with Butter London Branwen's Feather and OPI Designer...De Better

Happy Friday friends! Today I have a really simple tutorial for you! So I had my nails painted with Butter London Branwen's Feather, a gorgeous deep purple- and I wanted to spice it up! I grabbed OPI Designer...De Better from the Muppets Collection (Swatch coming soon!) which is a lovely silver foil with orange flecks. Below is the tutorial and final pictures! PS- Please 'like' Notes and Nails on Facebook at www.facebook.com/notesandnails

And if you aren't already a follower on GFC just click follow to get my posts in your feed! I'll be doing a giveaway when I hit 100 followers!

Tape Mani Tutorial
You'll Need: Tape, Scissors and two contrasting polishes.
1. Apply base coat and your first shade. Let it REALLY dry. In my case, I waited an entire day before doing this mani!
2. Cut strips of tape into thin lines of varying sizes, making sure the strips are longer than your nail length. Place the tape on your nail in whatever pattern you would like and press firmly.
3. Paint a few coats of your contrasting shade right over the tape. It's best to use a polish that isn't too thick or goopy.
4. Quickly peel the tape off! It's important to know which tape strip was applied first so you can pull them off in the correct order. When dry, finish off with top coat and voila!

Have you ever done a mani like this before?

My Take On: Butter London Branwen's Feather

Hello everyone! Today I have a great new purple I snagged last week- Butter London Branwen's Feather. It's a mouthful, but BF is a deep purple shade with small silver flickers of glitter. Application is wonderful, I could have stopped at two coats but went for three. In some lights, it almost looks brown- but as a purple fanatic, this one goes down as a perfect winter shade!

Horizontal Stripe Mani with OPI Barefoot in Barcelona, Essie Smokin Hot and Essie Trophy Wife

Hello there lovelies! Today I have a super fun mani to show you! I was inspired when I saw a similar mani with a horizontal stripe in the middle and decided to give it a twist!

I started off with two coats of OPI Barefoot in Barcelona on the entire nail. I then alternated nails using Essie Smokin' Hot and painted just half the nail. It didn't matter if the line wasn't perfect because I knew I'd be going over it again! Then, using a nail art brush, I painted 1-2 coats of Essie Trophy Wife across the middle. I painted the line just thick enough to cover the line of polish in between. I thought this was so simple and it looks very classy! I actually think it also makes me nails look longer!

Have you ever tried a mani like this?

My Take On: OPI Excuse Moi!

Hi everyone! Today I have my take on one of the amazing glitters from OPI's Muppet Collection. Excuse Moi is a glitter polish, that is too light to wear alone, but has a pink enough base that with enough coats (I'm talking 4-5) you COULD wear it alone. I chose to layer it over OPI Grand Central Carnation. I used two coats of Grand Central Carnation and 2-3 coats of Excuse Moi. Excuse Moi has a multitude of glitters, from orange to silver to green! It's such a dynamic glitter and unlike any other pink I have!

Have you tried out this shade?

Music Monday: Shwayze, The Hood Internet, Scissor Sisters and More!

Hello everyone and Happy Monday! Today brings the second installment of my weekly music faves! Today I have a lot of fun, upbeat tunes to jam out to during the week.

1. I Won't Go- Shwayze ft. Adele
This great song features a sample of Adele's "He Won't Go" that is just perfect!

2. One Midnight With You- The Hood Internet (M83 vs. Mayer Hawthorne)
This mashup of M83's popular 'Midnight City' and Mayer Hawthorne's 'No Strings' make a perfect combination.

3. Shady Love- Scissor Sisters ft. Azealia Banks
Such a fun song, perfect for the gym in my opinion.

4. Colorblind-Leona Lewis
One of my all time favorite songs by The Counting Crows (and I can play this on the piano!) covered by Leona Lewis who I just love! The best of both worlds!

Hope enjoy these tunes! What are you listening to this week?

Glitter Stripe with Zoya Gloria and OPI Show It and Glow It

Hi everyone! Today I have an easy manicure that is so glittery and fun! First, I used two coats of OPI Show It and Glow It from the Burlesque collection. It's a gorgeous shade of fuschia glitter with blue, silver and other colors of glitter as well! I used the tape technique and put a thin piece of tape over the part of my nail I wanted to stay glitter-ific once my nails were very dry. I then painted 3 coats of Zoya Gloria, a beautiful pink shade! I then took the tape off and voila! Gloria did not cover Show It and Glow  It as much as I'd like, but i think it still looks really fun!

Dotted Stripes with Chanel and Deborah Lippmann

Hi friends! First I'd like to say WOO for reaching 90 followers on the blog! You can 'follow' my blog by clicking 'Join This Site' via Google! Also you can find me on Twitter, Tumblr and now on Facebook!

Back to the mani! Today I have a fun and really really easy mani! I call them dotted stripes, as they are striped made up of little dots! I used two coats of the gorg Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun. I used a dotting tool to make the small dots in Chanel Mimosa. If I tried this again, I'd like it to be a little neater haha, but overall I love this style and color combination!

Art Club Glam Nails Decals!

Hi everyone! Today I have my first attempt with nail decals! My eye caught this geometric design. I'm all for nail stickers or decals when the design is something really interesting, but a plain hot pink mani? I can do it myself! These were not the easiest to apply, and after I applied them and shaped them to my nail, I could tell they would be falling off soon. They were getting caught on everything and I was so frustrated I took them off! They may look good, but they were a pain. And also not wide enough for my nails!

Have you ever tried these decals?

Reverse French Mani with Nicole by OPI My Empire...My Rules and Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam

Hi friends! Today I have what I like to call a 'reverse french' mani. Some people say that a reverse french would be a Half Moon manicure but I think this is more the reverse to a french! I used two of the Nicole by OPI Kardashian Colors, My Empire...My Rules (the grey-ish shade) and Khloe Had a Little Lam Lam. Both have amazing application, I only used two coats of KHALLL (jeez that's a mouthful!) This style is so easy and it just changes up the normal manicure! Reminder! OPI Congeniality is My Middle Name with Leopard!

Hi everyone! Today I have an awesome mani that was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest! I wish I knew who made the gorgeous design but couldn't find the direct link! I also have a wonderful announcement! I know that everyone is different in how they like to follow blogs- some on twitter, some through blogger, some on tumblr! I'm happy to say I've created a Facebook page where I'll be sharing new posts and tutorials! You can find my Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/noteandnails

I used OPI Congeniality is My Middle Name for the base. This shade is pretty opaque so I just used two coats. For the metallic stripe I used Zoya Jules, a great neutral gold shade. For the leopard spots I used a new nail art pen from Nail Ritz I got as a gift! I loved how this turned out and will definitely be trying more color combinations with it!

Mod Water Marbling with Butter London, OPI and Deborah Lippmann

Hey friends! Today I have my 5th or so attempt at water marbling (just guessing...) and I chose to use some bright fun colors! I painted a base of OPI Barefoot in Barcelona so the colors would be more vibrant. If I did this color combo again I might choose white as the Deborah Lippmann shade didn't show up as bright as I'd like. For the marbling, I used Butter London Blagger- an AMAZING shade for water marbling, OPI Pamplona Purple and Deborah Lippmann Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Wanting to try Water Marbling yourself? Check out this tutorial from Hey Nice Nails!
