My Full Review of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" album

Hi everyone! This is my first post written on the iPad so hopefully everything turns out as normal.

I didn't want to write a review for Born This Way until I had a chance to listen to each song a few times. Now that I am in my car commuting to and from work everyday I have plenty of time to listen!

If you've been following my blog for a while you'll know that I am a huge gaga fan and am always on the lookout for new tracks, videos etc. I was so excited to get the full Born This Way album and it seems that most of America and the world felt the same way based on sales. Gaga even crashed Amazon because of so many downloads!

Now to the review...I won't say much about the singles that were released prior to the album but you can refer to my previous posts about those.

1. Marry The Night: starts out slow but gets quite jam-my with the chorus. Overall greatness! Must check out Zedd remix of this (included in the deluxe album).
2. Born This Way: By now everyone has heard this in the club, on the radio and basically everywhere. Love the song but am still perplexed by the comparisons to Madonna's Express Yourself (the two are identical!)
3. Government Hooker: A little bit darker, and probably controversial to some...very funky gaga track. Not sure what language she speaks in the beginning but I like it. Very sexy song.
4. Judas: Again, most have heard by now but I still love this track. Gets stuck in my head forever but not my favorite on the album. Great music video!
5. Americano: Probably my least favorite, just doesn't do anything for me. Like the class though!
6. Hair: Another pre-released track...same vibe as Born This Way as far as lyrics and theme go "I was a loser but be whoever you want to be you are great the way you are etc." I'm all for that but I don't see why there need to be two songs like this on the album.
7. Scheiebe: Great dance track, all in German I believe... I heard this about six weeks ago as I know it was used in a Thierry Mugler fashion show. I can see this being very popular for the club scene.
8. Bloody Mary: My personal favorite! It absolutely surprised me throughout the song. Just love the general feel of the song but especially the "dum dum da da dum" part haha.
9. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion: What a strange name for a song, but it's very catchy! Very fun and pure pop and really doesn't have anything to do with religion despite the name.
10. Bad Kids: Same "I'm a loser" vibe but love love the chorus of this song. Very 80's pop.
11. Fashion Of His Love: Another one of my favorites. Very "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" in the chorus but that doesn't mean it's any less of a fun pop song that makes you want to dance around in your room!
12. Highway Unicorn: Cant help but dance to this song, upbeat dance track.
13. Heavy Metal Lover: Reminds me a little of Love Game by Gaga...but same ol same ol, not a standout track to me.
14. Electric Chapel: More religious undertones but the track doesnt sound like Gaga, more like s pop group like Pussycat Dolls or something.
15. The Queen: Straight out of the 80's with a really catchy "que-ee-ee-ee-en" part.
16. You and I: Some of you might have seen Hailey from American Idol sing this and I loved it after hearing it on the show. Almost country pop...but just amazing!
17. The Edge of Glory: Many of you have heard this on the American Idol or on Saturday Night Live but this really is one of the best tracks on the cd.

Overall, the album is very reminiscent of 80's pop but I don't think that's a bad thing...has some religious and political understones and is a perfect cd for just jamming out in your room or dancing with your friends!

Love it! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  1. I enjoyed Gaga's first two albums, but I haven't been impressed with any of the singles off this album so I probably won't be picking it up. I think "Edge of Glory" sounds like it could be on the Top Gun soundtrack with that super 80s sax solo.

  2. Yeah, it didn't wow me the way The Fame and The Fame Monster did but it is still enjoyable and I kinda like the 80's pop throwback.
